DHS needed a nationwide integrated training and exercise system to build capacity for field response to a biothreat incident at the local level. The system had to be scalable to meet variable local requirements.
We developed a modular approach to train first responders in biological hazards sampling. The training includes a practicum that uses technology to provide qualitative, visible feedback on sampling competency and capability.
We’ve provided training to more than 840 participants across 6 public health disciplines in 17 jurisdictions. Participants reported that the training increased their readiness to respond to a biothreat incident, demonstrating a direct positive impact on public health preparedness.
